This book was complicated for me. I went into it with such high hopes after seeing such great reviews and press around it but it fell flat. Considering that, I was probably not the intended audience and if I had more of a connection to New York City or even Y2K maybe it would be more of a captivating read but it was very hard to get into the book and care about the characters.
The book was very slow to get into and I did not start to feel drawn to keep reading untilLily and Matthew finally began a serious relationship and they struggled with their infertility. Adding that piece of science fiction and the mystery behind why Nick did not look like his mother was what kept me interested in the story but I truly did not feel like the book was going anywhere.
I think that the book was well written but it was not for me. If the synopsis interests you, then I say you give it a shot but I would at least wait to make your judgement until you get to the second section of the book.
