The author of this book is a Japanese playwright and I definitely felt like I was reading a play script. I had the image of the cafe in my head as if it was taking place on a stage and while I realise that might not be appealing to some, I quite enjoyed the different way of reading it gave me.

I can’t say I felt particularly connected to the characters in the book which is why I’ve dropped a star. However, I enjoyed the storyline and the message it was putting across. It is a bit bleak at times but that’s something I seem to find with all the books I’ve read by Japanese authors so I was kind of expecting that.

A short read, not for everyone but worth a try!
