Boyfriend Material
by Alexis Hall
Honestly, I was so excited to read this book. But when I finally got around to it, I was a bit disappointed.
Alexi Hall is amazing at writing lovable main characters and portraying love between them so well. I just wish those aspects were focused on a bit more. For me, the side characters fell flat and a lot of them weren't needed for this book. Sometimes the dialogue was a bit direct and stiff and it felt hard to imagine other people talking this way to each other in real life.
Still, I loved the main romance between Luc and Oliver and just wish the book centered more on them than on pointless filler surrounding side characters that weren't that likable.
All in all, this book had its ups and downs and I completely understand why people love this book. It just wasn't for me.
(and this is going to make me look like a hypocrite but I will be reading Husband Material, lol)
Personally, I don't feel like Luc and Oliver's fake relationship was built up enough. I was really expecting some more witty banter and snarky comments and was a bit disappointed with Luc kind of fell instantly in love with Oliver after hating him for so long.
All this being said, I loved the ending to this book; the romance, the confession, the admitting to mistakes, and apologizing. It's the ending that I really needed to make sure this book wrapped up nicely in my opinion. And I also loved how the book kept me on the edge until the very last chapter. I wish the rest of the book made me feel as good this last scene did.
