This book is a contemporary fiction that hits some hard topics. Hard to read and hard to think about. And I'm not going to lie, I don't read hard books often. I read for enjoyment and escape, and to be taken away from the serious stuff that goes on every day. I read mostly YA fantasy and sci-fi, with a little bit of rom-com mixed in when even those get too heavy.

So to write a review for this book is really hard for me. I want to be honest and tell you that I didn't want to finish it. But I also don't want to deter anyone from reading the book if contemporary fiction is your thing. Because if I'm looking at it from a strictly critical standpoint, it was a good book. The story was well done and the writing was great. And it's based on real life events that shouldn't be swept under the rug. So for all of that, I would definitely give it ⭐⭐⭐⭐

But it's a hard book to read... and even hard to digest. We're all different and we all read for our own reasons. And I am absolutely certain that if you read this review and think you'd like this book, YOU WILL. But if you're like me and you read for escape, I'd recommend sticking with a good old fashioned fantasy.
