Olive Kitteridge was a reread for me, because I want to be a Lucy and Olive completionist before reading Tell Me Everything! After having read all of the Lucy Barton novels, I was glad to have a better feeling of how Elizabeth Strout slowly builds a very nuanced character, while throwing in some jaw dropping plot points. I still found it difficult to empathize with Olive; she reminded me so much of my grandmother, who was a very judgmental and closed off person that I still carry some resentment towards. So that’s obviously my personal relationship with the character and your mileage may vary. But, I’m SO glad to get to know her.
