Despite stomach-turning surgical procedures (though highly educational) and some overly intimate scenes (often wittily entertaining), the stories woven into this one long epic addition to one long epic story have me hooked. The history is absorbing, the science and medicine continually enlightening, but for me it’s the characters that have the greatest pull. Don’t want the adventure to end…
