These Witches Don't Burn by Isabel Sterling
4.0

Queer teen witches, a pseudo-mystery and witch hunters all colliding in modern day Salem. ⁣

I really enjoyed this modern teen witch story with a slight mystery twist. Hannah is a gay, elemental witch in training to be a full witch within her coven. I loved the aspect of the different types of witches (elemental, blood) and how the book focused on family and the larger dynamics of the coven. We have some great queer representation and elements of being out versus not being out and the different ways families and close acquaintances react to it. ⁣

This book definitely sets up book 2 and leaves us with some questions. I’m hoping we get to experience more magic in the next book because it was limited here considering they are witches in training and keeping their magical abilities hidden from humans. This book was fun and dealt with some big/emotional themes in a very relatable way. ⁣
