Columbine by Dave Cullen

Definitely not a fun read. But very comprehensive and unbiased writing. I hate give it five stars for being "so good" due to the subject matter alone, but it was a really interesting read. As always, the media got it all wrong then, as it continues to do now. And as always, it comes back to the mental health system and the inadequate assistance that's out there for those in need. This is not a story about gun control and lack there of because these two kids found away around the law, somewhat legally too.

It took me over a month to read it because it was just so emotionally heavy. I was a freshman in High School when it happened, I remember seeing the new coverage, I remember how going to school after that changed. I remember the "bomb threats". I remember thinking, gee aren't we supposed to be safe in school. And now 17 years later, as an adult, and a parent it's hard because I send my kids off to school while in the back of my mind hoping they make it back home at the end of their day. As they grow up I hope they can come to me when life feels too hard, because I can't imagine them doing anything as unspeakable as this tragedy.

I feel for all those students, that community and the shooter's parents. I almost feel for the shooters themselves because they were sick kids that needed help and just never got it.
