I was deeply interested in this mystery and where the story was going. I liked a lot of the twists but there were moments when it felt a little too long, with details and plot divergences that didn't end up going anywhere. I'm unsure about the ending most of all. I know it leads into the next book in the series but I'm not entirely sure I like where it's headed. However this is, overall, a really great new take on the police detective mystery and I'm deeply interested in what happens to these characters later. I'll for sure read the second book in the series.
Graphic: Racial slurs, Racism
This book takes place in the heart of Texas and the racial tensions between black and white folks is the major vocal point. As a result there is A LOT of uses of the "n" word.
