The Secret Life of Bees
by Sue Monk Kidd
I had the pleasure of reading/listening to this book on whispersync, so I had the choice of the wonderful narration of Jenna Lamia or reading on the Kindle. I have to admit to more of the former than the later. I could “hear” Jenna’s soft tones when I read the book and this added to the experience of the book and made the South very real.
The prose is beautiful, the characters well drawn, wondrous moments are pondered and relationships are explored. It is sad in places but you never lose hope. In fact the book like honey is probably too sweet but somehow it works.
This one has made my favourites shelf.
