libscote 's review for:
Thirteen Doorways, Wolves Behind Them All
by Laura Ruby
This is Ruby's usual beautiful writing, but it also feels quite stream-of-conscious in a way--the dialogue doesn't often have quotation marks, and sometimes it switches perspective quickly, and it would take me a while to figure out who was speaking. I also didn't always know what was going on, but it seemed like the characters did, so that was novel (haha). I also learned something about history I didn't know, which was that children were dropped off at orphanages during the Great Depression if their parents couldn't take care of them. Of course, Frankie's dad takes it one step further. Overall, I enjoyed the book.
