Temporary by Hilary Leichter

I wanted something similar to There’s No Such Thing as an Easy Job when I started listening to this one, and it did deliver in a way but it takes it to a more surreal plane. Absurd, witty, dissecting the endless, pointless cycle of lots of work (corporate jobs especially), Temporary follows a ‘temporary’, a woman always filling in for other people and constantly grasping after the ‘steadiness’. She fills in for a near-extinct barnacle on a rock, assists a murderer, acts as an abandoned boy’s mother, organises a woman’s shoe closet, and leaflets for a dragon. It’s very odd, but I liked it! Especially the temporary mother part - capitalism might win you over with the illusion that you’re part of one big work family, but ultimately you’re still just a cog in a machine. Bleak, how I like it.
