The Course of Love by Alain de Botton
4.0

This book is the kind of book that is so unnervingly familiar, when having been with the same partner for years and having 2 children.

It is not a tradional fiction book.
This should be read by anyone in a relationship, or who is coming out of a failed one. It is part therapeutic non-fiction and at the same time a story about a fictionalized couple with two kids. It starts with the meeting of the two main characters and them falling in love with each other. From there it is a story of their years together with all the ups and downs.

The book is told as a stand up comedian would, highlighting the absurdities of love, relationships and our own personalities when entering a relationship, whether it be with a partner or child. It is funny because you see yourself in this, it is scary because of it and yet I excited this tale hopeful that love will prevail.
It puts a spotlight on how we basically all are idiots and children in reality, who needs love, tenderness, affection and attention and how we sometimes demands too much of our partners.

I must admit I learned a lot from this book.
I cannot recommend it enough.
