š Book Review: A Soul as Cold as Frost by Jennifer Kropf āļø
Rating: āļøāļøāļø 3.75/5
I went into A Soul as Cold as Frost expecting a dark academia, magical schemes kind of vibeāsomething akin to Harry Potter with a twist. Thatās how it was recommended to me. But, boy, was that NOT what I got. The book wasnāt what I thought it would be, and that might be why I struggled to connect with it. š
Let me be clear: the writing itself was solid, especially for a debut novel! āļø The authorās talent is evident, and I really appreciated the world-building and depth they put into the story. But the plot and characters didnāt click for meāespecially Annie. I was hoping for that magical, mysterious energy that ādark academiaā usually brings, but this one felt colder, more distant, and less about the enchanted schemes I was expecting.
Itās not the authorās fault at all. The way social media hyped it up just gave me the wrong idea. I think this may be one of those books that needs to be read at a different time with a fresh mindset. š
Overall, A Soul as Cold as Frost has potential, and I see why others might connect with it. Just wasnāt *my* vibe. Iād still recommend giving it a shot if you're into more atmospheric, introspective stories that arenāt driven by the magical chaos I had in mind.
