Bully Wars, Vol. 1
by Jean-François Beaulieu, Aaron Conley, Nate Piekos, Skottie Young
The artwork is awesome! It's expressive, colorful, and utterly cartoony! On the other hand, the story leaves a lot to be desired. The humor's gross and slapstick and there's a bit of minor glorification of bullying. I don't mind Rufus getting a redemption arc, but him becoming friends with everyone is WAY TOO EASY! He bullied these kids since they were babies, and you're telling me everything is friendship and roses now? All the years of being stuffed in lockers, noogied, spat on, and beat up, and it's okay? I thought it was great (at first) Spencer let it be known they wouldn't be friends and to just hold up his part of the deal. But no, they had to shoe-horn in some friendship. Rufus' a jerk you could have let it end with him keeping his side of a deal and giving a head-nod. Like, "We could've been friends if you hadn't been such a lame nerd."
Then Spencer would be, "Right back at ya. If you didn't have a total disregard for decency and kindness, we could have bonded over comics too."
Whatever.
Art is awesome, but the story is poopy.
