Daisy Has Autism
by Aaron J. Wright
This book was infuriating to me. As someone who is going to school for Social Work, focusing in Child Welfare and Education... the actions of the teachers, administrators, school board, etc. in this book were absolutely shocking and despicable. The blatant refusal of Magda's disabilities under the premise of "They make our county look bad" is ridiculous. In fact, if they would properly develop their special needs program, I can assure you that it would make the county look a lot better.
You can tell that the author of this book has had personal experiences with this situation with the amount of detail and research that went into putting together this story. It was extremely well written and you can't help but sympathize with the family while they are trying to figure out how they can get the proper help for their child.
Gave this a 4 stars because the ending was a little rushed to me and left me unsure of wether the problem was solved or not. Otherwise, great book.
