The Throne of Broken Gods
by Amber V. Nicole
"When I burn this world to embers, and you paint me as the villain, remember, I really did try to be good...once."
This book consumed my life. Cleaning wasn't done. Work wasn't done. Life was on hold. Healthy? Maybe not. Worth it? Absolutely. The main plot point of this book is a major spoiler for book 1, so if you read this and haven’t read TBOA… *shrug*
"This is how the world ends"
The Book of Azrael ended on a heart-shattering cliffhanger and this one picks right back up and stomps all over your soul. In a good way. In a way that makes you cry every few pages.
In a way that makes you highlight 517 parts in the book, making it impossible to find things for your review 🙃 Dianna, our loving main character, is not so loving in this book. She is downright evil. She kills all those in her path with no hesitation and no remorse.
"Just remember you may be immortal, but your friends, family, and those who look up to you aren't. So how many do you want to lose because you won't let me do what I need to do?"
She is the epitome of morally black. But she's in pain, she's hurting, and her only way to fix that pain is revenge. Get revenge on everyone who wronged her. She's broken and tired, alone and damaged.
"A lock on a door in a house rattled"
Samkiel, our cinnamon bun World Ender, will never give up on Dianna. He would burn the world for her, so when everyone is against her, he was the only one standing by her side, even if she didn't know it.
"She will kill me! Aren’t you supposed to be the good guy?”
I twisted the handle, locking him in, and leaned against the door. “I never once said that I was good. That is just a fable you all tell yourselves that I will show mercy. You believe that to be the law and govern the realms, I have to be at least neutral, but sometimes a king has to be a monster.”
I know a lot of the book community focuses on the MMC of books, but I think Dianna shines through so much more and deserves the spotlight! Her character growth (in both directions) is amazing and her determination and loyalty are unwavering.
"Just go home. Go back to your castle and towers of silver. Go home and let the monsters handle their business."
This is a book about secrets. This book will show you how secrets can rip the universe apart. How family betrays family and there are liars everywhere.
“I buried my father. I buried my mother. Now, I will bury her.”
“Not the ideal vacation, but this is where you wanted to go. Better late than never.”
WHY AMBER??? 😭😭😭 This was the saddest thing, her taking Gabby’s ashes to the beach that they were going to visit!!!
She is hunting down everyone who was involved in Gabby’s death. I felt so so bad when it was revealed that pretty much everyone betrayed her. LIKE HOW COULD YOU ALL?? Especially Drake, that one hit her (AND ME) hard. But the scene where she gets to their mansion, perfection.
“Where’s my wife?” Ethan asked. His answer came a second later. Dianna emerged from the darkness, her crimson gaze sweeping over the celestials and holding on me. I felt Ethan shift behind me, and her eyes flickered to him, her expression twisting. I knew two things with absolute certainty. First, when she came out to fight, she wore her hair back from her face as she did now, her long ponytail swinging behind her. Second, this cruel creature wasn’t my Dianna.
Years of war had steeled my stomach to gruesome atrocities, but seeing her so casually holding the head of Ethan’s wife in her palm had my gut twisting.”
The fight scene between Tobias, Dianna, Logan, and Neverra was amazing! Dianna getting eaten by Tobias and then killing him from the inside, I died!😂 That was great. Logan and Neverra putting their armour on and saying they’re going to help, and Dianna saying, I got it. 😂 Like no big deal, just got swallowed by a huge lizard dragon thing, but it’s all good, it's dead. LOL!
“The room shook again, and [Neverra] looked up. “What’s happening?”
Another roar spilt the sky, and small rocks rained from the ceiling.
“It’s Dianna. I think she is working through her problems.”
This book is about healing. From grief and guilt. About new family and lost family, forming friendships, and remembering happy memories.
For such a dark book, Dianna’s sass and humour really shone through. It was a nice comedic relief and made her all that more real. Also, Samkiel catching up on the language and being funny too was great.
“Who knew kidnapping a witch, slaughtering a coven, and destroying a vampire line would put Samkiel on such high alert?”
"Is this us flirting? You yell and toss me through a few stories when you don't get your way, or perhaps you'll drop another building on me."
The reveal!! Kaden is Samkiel’s brother, and he has more siblings, and his father was kinda garbage…PHEW, I did not see most of that coming!
Also, that bitch Vincent.
Also, that bitch Nismera.
There is so much more I could say about everything, and I have a million more quotes highlighted but this is long enough, and just, please read this series!
My Insta post for this book!
