Sunrise on the Reaping
by Suzanne Collins
If you told little 10 year old me that 12 years later we’d be getting a Haymitch book, I wouldn’t have believed you. But here we are.
First off, this book was gorgeously written. I think Collins’ writing has improved so much since the first book and she always has so much to say both in the book and outside of it, and I absolutely think this book couldn’t have come out at a better time.
Everything about this book just tied this entire series off so well, I found myself sobbing at the last few pages just because I thought it was such a perfect send off for these characters that I’ve basically grown up with now. I adore this universe and this series so so much, SOTR is definitely my favourite.
The hints at Lucy Gray?? The web of characters and foreshadowing, hints of events that’ll take place in later books and the reflections of actions that characters will do later on? I was constantly putting pieces together in my mind and making connections between certain choices, certain words, certain actions. This book has just added so many layers to this and I found myself wanting to reread the whole thing again just to soak it in.
I honestly don’t even know what else to say about this book other than it’s brilliant.
