The Devil You Know by Claire Marta
5.0

I honestly didn’t know what to expect from Claire Marta’s book. Well, if I were to be blunt, I must confess I’m ashamed with how low my expectations were. I was ready for a lukewarm paranormal story, with an amalgamate of fantastic creatures. I got Hell unleashed.
Is this book for anyone? Hell, no! If you’ve got triggers and peeves, don’t go near it. Is this book dark and twisted and unexpected? Hell yes! Is it fabulous? Double hell yes! Is it palatable? It depends on personal taste. It’s not for the faint-hearted, for sure.
Is this a romance? Not quite.
What is it then? A tale of abuse, of darkness, and a hero’s journey. The latter is what matters the most. Also a tale about family, friends, and enemies. A story of manipulation, lust, and courage. The dark, twisted and crude parts of it are not gratuitous, and that’s what makes the story remarkable. After all, the Devil himself is the star, and he can’t be anything but a wicked, perverted creature.
Mavi, the female lead, is a reminder that no matter how strong and determined we are, we always have our flaws, weaknesses and inner darkness that make us human. Is she a good girl? Never. Is she relatable? Always.
It’s a five star from me.
Bonus points for making Hell a freezing place.
