Starling House
by Alix E. Harrow
If you love a book where the setting feels like a character itself, Starling House delivers! Alix E. Harrow crafts a beautifully atmospheric Southern Gothic tale, full of eerie charm, a sentient house, and a strong-willed main character you can’t help but root for.
Opal is a scrappy, no-nonsense protagonist who’s just trying to survive, but fate—and a crumbling, mysterious house—have other plans for her. I love when authors make a place feel alive, and Starling House is practically a character of its own, brimming with secrets and history. The slow-burn tension, haunting folklore, and rich writing make for an immersive read that feels like stepping into a dark fairy tale.
This is a great YA book, and I definitely enjoyed it! Plus, I listened to it for FREE on Libby, which made the experience even better. If you love moody, gothic vibes and strong female leads, this one is worth picking up!
