Survivor Song
by Paul Tremblay
A fast-acting rabies like outbreak is taking over while two friends race against time to save an unborn baby
I really enjoyed that this book was fast paced and basically takes place in real time over the course of one night. It definitely added to the frantic feel of the story. We are thrown into the midst of this rabies like outbreak, kind of like waking up in the middle of a nightmare.
Natalie is pregnant and waiting for her husband to come home with provisions. Upon his return, he is attacked, bitten and killed by an infected person. As Natalie tries to help him, she is bitten too. Unfortunately, Natalie knows she doesn’t have much time to save her unborn baby so she sets out to get help from her best friend, Ramola, who is also a doctor. The story basically follows these two women as they try to save Natalie’s baby, amidst countless obstacles and horror movie worthy moments - including infected animals, crazy vigilantes and more but don’t fret, there are no zombies here! Just delusional humans prone to biting when infected by the rabies-like virus spread by saliva.
If you’re not opposed to pandemic, post-apocalyptic style horror - grab this one. It was a fast read and the audiobook narration was well done. I enjoyed it!
