The Awakening by Susanne Valenti, Caroline Peckham

Without getting into it too much, the writing for this could be a lot better. It kind of reminds me of a full-grown adult who regressed to their teenage years but then tried to throw some current and put of date slang into the dialogue. At one point, flip-flops are called thongs....

The reason to read this book is the very interesting world and magic/supernatural mechanisms. It's a little on the nose by being so dedicated to the zodiac theme, but I kind of appreciate how they really went for it.

The author definitely writes the main protagonist as clumsy but attractive gullible quirky girl and sexy bad girl that doesn't take no shit but makes bad choices. So if you're avoiding those tropes, keep that in mind.

The romance in this first one is LACKLUSTER to say the least. People regard this series as a spicy bully romance, but the bullying is way more traumatic than I normally like my enemies to lovers trope to be. Plus, you don't get that "Yay, they're together!" at all in this one.
