Took me a while to get into, but once I did it was very enjoyable.

Banks clearly has a wonderful imagination, as well as a way with words, allowing him to describe bizarre and fantastic scenes with detail and humour. He gives us a space opera, but rather than a clone of Star Wars, it always feels fresh and surprising.
