Songs in Ursa Major
by Emma Brodie
Oh my word, this book. I had seen a few of my fave bookstagrammers mention how much they loved it and finally decided to join the party. It. Was. So. Good!! Set in the late 60s and early 70s, Jane Quinn and her band the Breakers get an opportunity to play on the main stage at a long running folk fest on their island after rising star Jesse Reid is in an accident. His A&R rep signs them and Jane gets to know Jesse when her aunt is assigned as his nurse. The rest of the story explores their relationships with each other, music, the industry, mental health, substance abuse, and more. The story is heartbreaking and intense and so so lovely. It reminded me of Daisy Jones and The Six in a lot of ways, which made me love it even more. Is it too soon to call fave book of the month?
