This was such a refreshingly unique read that I really enjoyed. Maddie is the type of character that you fall in love with immediately, there was something so endearing about her that captured my heart. There are so many great themes explored here from grief to family to racism (and much more) and the process of growing up and trying to find your own place in the world and become an independent person, I loved all aspects. There’s some heaviness as Maddie navigates all of this but there was also so many funny moments too and I loved how the author broke up the sadness with some well timed humor. The audiobook was so fantastic, Heather Agyepong brought Maddie to life in a brilliant way and had me captivated with her performance. A beautiful coming of age story that I definitely recommend.
