informative slow-paced

This is the story of the 6th Ranger Battalion, who went to the Philippines to rescue 513 prisoners of war. They were being held in a nasty camp in Cabanatuan. Some of these prisoners were the last ones surviving from the atrocious Bataan Death March. This book was so emotional to read. It is appalling what so many people endured in these camps, the starvation and torture. The conditions were disgusting. War is never a great thing, but to read about these aspects is heart rending. I would recommend this book. Hampton Sides is a great writer.
