This was a fast-paced, popcorn-style thriller that kept me turning pages—but didn’t quite stick the landing. The setup is classic McFadden: a seemingly perfect tenant moves into a brownstone, and things spiral into paranoia, secrets, and revenge. The NYC setting added a nice layer of atmosphere, and the three-part structure (Blake’s POV, Krista’s twisty reveal, and the final dual perspective) gave the story momentum.

That said, the twist didn’t fully surprise me, and some of the character decisions felt more frustrating than believable. The “unhinged woman” trope was a bit overdone, and while the pacing was strong, the emotional depth didn’t quite hit. Still, it was entertaining and easy to binge—just not one I’d rush to recommend.

If you’re in the mood for a quick, twisty read with a few familiar beats, this one might scratch the itch. Just don’t expect it to reinvent the genre.
