myntop 's review for:
All the Bright Places
by Jennifer Niven
So many tears! Please be sure you are prepared with tissues when you read this book!
I think there is a good message in this book about the stigma put on people with mental illness. Mental health is just as important as physical health. I also really appreciate the author's inclusion of numbers of places that can help in the back of the book.
I found myself struggling with anger at the parents of this book, and even the school counselor. I know, logically, that sometimes there's not anything you can do to prevent the tragedy of what happens in this book. However, the mother was completely clueless and I don't think the counselor tried hard enough to get help for Finch.
There's really not much I can say in this review without giving too much away. This is a book that must be read and experienced in each reader's own way. But I do feel it's a book that should be read.
