An Ember in the Ashes

» QUICK OVERVIEW «
Stars: ★★★☆☆
Plot: ★★★☆☆
Readability: ★☆☆☆☆
Characters: ★★★★☆
Writing: ★★☆☆☆

» PLOT «
Laia is a slave. Elias is a soldier. Neither is free. Under the Martial Empire, defiance is met with death. Those who do not vow their blood and bodies to the Emperor risk the execution of their loved ones and the destruction of all they hold dear.
I genuinely did enjoy the outline of the plot, and I do want to know what happens to Elias and Laia in the next books. But... this book was too long and too bland. The story could've been written better, shorter, and with more/better development.
Elias's POV and storyline was a lot more interesting than Laia's. I honestly would've been okay with more of Elias and less of Laia. While I appreciate Laia's POV, her storyline and the characters accompanying it were beauty.
While reading this, I was so bored of the Laia and the main plotline that I became desperate and HUNGRY for romance. This book could've had a shitty plot and a tiny bit of romance, and I would've liked this book more. Elias gave me everything I needed, but Laia was just lacking in everything.
» READABILITY «
I started reading this with an Ebook, but became very bored so I switched to an audiobook. This book was just dry and not very nice to get through.
» CHARACTERS «
Like I said above, Elias was great and so were the characters in his POV. However, the characters around Laia, and Laia herself, were bland and uninteresting.
» WRITING «
Like I said above, the writing was just really dry and made it hard to be interesting in the story.
» OVERALL «
ifi get news that the writing gets better, maybe i'll continue the series.
