As someone who married my high school boyfriend, Out of the Woods hit me in such a personal, emotional way. So much of what Sarah reflects on throughout the book felt achingly familiar. Not everyone understands what its like to grow up while growing alongside the person you fell for, questioning who you are as individuals and as a couple, wondering what it really means to choose each other every day.
There’s a gentle melancholy that runs through this story, a quiet sense of reflection that never tips into hopelessness. Instead, it becomes something inspiring. Watching Sarah and Ben work together and grow into their best, most honest selves was such a moving experience.
It’s not flashy or overly dramatic; it’s real, intimate, and deeply tender. A beautiful read for anyone who’s ever looked at a long-term love and thought, We’ve changed… but maybe we still fit.
