I'm not sure what to say about this book. In the beginning, I was pretty confident that I wasn't going to like it because of the writing style. Trying to explain it to someone else, I googled it and thought this was an incredibly apt description: Poetic and evocative - the writing is often described as poetic and beautiful, focusing on the feelings and sounds of words rather than always being direct.
By the end though, I found myself invested in Azzie and Vin and thought their story was told with a rawness and real vulnerability. There are strong horror elements/imagery, but I did not feel they were so graphic that they detracted from the experience.
