maxines_obsessions 's review for:
Trick or Revenge
by Cassie Hargrove
So firstly... the trigger warnings. Read them and believe them because the things that happen to the mc on the page are brutal. It's not an easy read.
I often have an issue with rape being used for character progression, and while I struggled to read this in places, I was willing to ride it out for the Revenge that i knew was coming.
Their were parts of the story that seemed very flimsy, ok the entire set up is flimsy as fuck. And there were quite a few spelling errors or wrong words used and I know some don't care, but it impacts my reading experience.
Yet overall I was invested in the characters, I wanted to see them beat the bad guys, I wanted to watch her get her Revenge and I wanted to see her move past the abuse. I didn't want it to beat her.
I also liked that the author mentioned counselling. She didn't brush over the trauma.
