timefliesaway 's review for:
Der Hund, der unterwegs zu einem Stern war
by Henning Mankell
A sweet story, although I’ve imagined something completely different, based on the title.
The first 30 pages didn’t really get to me, but I decided to read further. Overall, this book wasn’t very exciting, but more emotional than I thought.
Maybe it’s because I’ve read it, while already being in a quite emotional state myself, but I definitely felt Joel’s unrest throughout the book. Even though my parents are married and together, I do know how it is when things suddenly change and your loved ones turn against you and the future forms into something that you’ve never even imagined it could happen (in a negative way).
Although, when looking back, our anxieties about the future are a bit over exaggerated, the feeling still hurts.
It made me mad a few times, how Joel spoke about Gertrude and Simon, just because their different. I’m glad how it turned out in the end, though.
Overall it’s a good book I think. Kids could definitely learn a thing or two.
