I really liked this. I'm not sure if it's really 5*, I don't know that "it was absolutely amazing!" but I've rated so many things 4* and this kept me more involved throughout, so I feel like I have to rate it higher.

This was included in AudiblePlus. An Australian author I hadn't heard of. My library does have a couple of her books, although not this series, so I was very happy to have Audible introduce it (&her) to me.

This started out with our MC, older teen girl, being held in some sort of government facility, subjected to tests and training. Befriended by a boy ... it was a little reminiscent of [b:Shatter Me|10429045|Shatter Me (Shatter Me, #1)|Tahereh Mafi|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1310649047l/10429045._SY75_.jpg|15333458], especially with the MC having some paranormal power (here, she can "speak" things into existence, although we/the reader, don't know that until quite a ways in. In ShatterMe, she can hurt/kill with just a touch) and both having some bad past situation (accidentally killed someone) and family separation, they are all alone. Then comes the boy ...

Even with said similarities, and so many "powers and abilities" stories out there, this was pretty unique and interesting. I was SO glad the second book (two books in the series) was done, and available in AudiblePlus, because I went right on.

Now, with this having an Australian author, it was set in Australia, and the narration here had an Australian accent. I adore an Australian accent! That just added to the enjoyment for me. Loved it.

Parental Perspective - I think this was completely clean, no sex/language and not even much violence. Totally recommend!
