libscote 's review for:
Firekeeper's Daughter
by Angeline Boulley
This book goes by so fast and deals with some intense and heavy stuff. Daunis is still reeling from the loss of her uncle and her grandmere's stroke, while dealing with the stuff that is more of a normal part of her life (being part Native and part white). Daunis becomes a covert informant (or CI) for an FBI investigation into meth being made in the area. Daunis is an 18 year old who wants to do the best for her community, and I loved hearing about her interactions with her elders. She has a lot of interest in learning the scientific basis for traditional medicines. There are some hard things in the novel: violence, assault, character death, rape...I might be forgetting some. Worth it though.
