The Sawbones Book: The Hilarious, Horrifying Road to Modern Medicine
by Sydnee McElroy, Justin McElroy
Just like on the podcast, their humor is this unique blend of snarky-highbrow and silly-low brow. I read this very slowly, doing one chapter or section before reading whatever novel I was currently on. I’m not a huge non-fiction reader but the light and silly tone made it feel doable after a long day, and I found it really interesting. If you follow the podcast a lot of this might be familiar information but definitely still fun.
ETA: I purchased my copy several years after the initial publication, which I think meant it also underwent another round of editing and didn’t suffer from the original missing pages publication problem. So if you read those reviews, I would suggest looking for a later published copy.
