The beautiful setting and exciting potentials of being in Botswana were completely wasted, the pacing was weird, and the use of very traumatic events (especially involving women) made me really hate this book. I'm shocked that some of these horrific things aren't mentioned in other reviews.
Relating to sexual assault content warnings: a character says her father said "rape isn't always a sign of evil, sometimes it can be a sign of love". What. The. Actual. Fuck. And this is after the second sexual assault of the book by the same man.
