I have been waiting on this book for so a long time. It’s got such a gorgeous cover. I was really excited to have the option to pick it for my Book of the Month box! I am having a hard time getting my thoughts together for this review though. I just have mixed feelings and I think I hyped this up a little too much! You would think that I would learn to stop doing that.

I really loved the premise of this book. A girl who is poisonous to the touch?! Soroya has been hidden away by her family because they don’t want people to know of the curse she has. Although, it’s pretty much made her really resentful of her family.

I did like Soroya’s journey of self discovery in this book. It might be one of the things that I loved the most. I was craving a lot more of her backstory. I wasn’t a fan of the instant love… sometimes it’s doable in a book but this was just too much.

Can we get a book about Parvaneh? She’s so mysterious and I want to know so much more about her. I loved her in this book!!

I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the world that Melissa created here. There’s a lot of mythology and folklore and it’s great. For me, there was just something missing with the plot. I love that she was creating a standalone book, which we need more of. The thing is, there was so much in this book that it needed to be longer. I felt like things were rushed and things happened so fast. There were so many complex aspects to this book and things were skimmed over or not fleshed out.

Overall, I did enjoy my time with this book and the world is so interesting. I loved the mythology/folklore. I did have some issues with the plot, relationships and some of the characters were missing some depth. It was really predictable but I didn’t mind it.
