Empire of the Vampire
by Jay Kristoff
Uuuuuuuggggggggg, this book was so looooooooonnnng! I'm a grown-ass adult, I ain't got time for 736 pages! AND it's only book 1??? I swear that wasn't there when I started this book, but when I finished it, sure enough, it's not over yet. I ain't gonna pick up book two though. Not worth it.
Now that I've gotten my bitching and moaning out of the way about things I really don't like in books (personally), it was a good book. Don't let my groaning stop you if you have time for a large-ass book about vampires that I can best describe as "reminded me of the Castlevania anime". The characters are great, the settings dark and grim (and mushroom-y). Oh, and the illustrations are very lovely! I really enjoyed those. It does get a bit tedious, and there is most certainly gore, profanity, and too many "yo mamma" jokes. You know, like in the Castlevania anime!
But I am just a human bean that doesn't read 24/7. I got other hobbies. And a job. And a need for sleep. Therefore this took me over 2 months to finish and towards the end I just wanted it to be over so I could move on to something else.
There's a map at the beginning of the book. I RARELY enjoy books that need maps for the story. I shoulda taken my own advice... oh well.
