The 31st Consort Vol. 1
by Tsubasa Nanaki, Momotomoe
The King needs to pick a wife/consort/partner/something and part of that process involves a selection of women being put forward and assigned a ranking from 1-31. The King will then visit a women on their corresponding day. E.g 15 will be visited on the 15th, 20 on the 20th and so on. Our FL, Felia, described more as a country bumpkin than a lady has been given the ranking of 31. Considered the worst rank due to the fact not every month has a 31st.
Felia is not interested in being anything to do with a king and simply wishes to farm, grow herbs and cook so as soon as she is shown her shabby accommodation for the duration of this...procurement? She is thrilled to be mostly left alone to her own devices to tend to a garden and live this process peacefully out.
Spoilers for what happens towards the end of volume 1
But obviously after a few months when the king finally visits its love at first sight and they are both smitten and awkward about it. Her more so than him. He seems to have more taken it in stride by the end.
Though rather cheesy I did find it a rather lovely cute read. Though the situation sounds a bit grim (31 women made to turn up and wait for one day a month to see the king to be maybe chosen and often only for an hour) it is a nice read due to mooooost of the characters being nice and not abusing the situation.
I don't find it an outstandingly different read but really liked it hence my high rating. If you are into this kind of story you will likely love it. If you're not bothered you will probably be less interested.
