Wilder Girls by Rory Power
4.0

What an excellent book.

A female take on Lord of the Flies, complete with an incredible f/f romance? I knew going into this book that I would love it and it definitely did not disappoint! The way that Rory Power writes is simply exquisite and the deeply unnerving setting permeates through the entire book. Each character was unique and interesting (though I did struggle to keep track of who was who at the beginning) and Reese in particular was really an incredible girl to read about! I wish we could have seen her perspective as well, not just Hetty and Byatt.

I will say that I wish this wasn't a standalone, the ending definitely left me with a bunch of questions regarding the Tox and the future of our main trio, but also still manages to be pretty satisfying. I also wish that all the time we spend in Byatt's POV wasn't so disjointed, and instead provided more information on why she was having some of the thoughts we saw. A deeper dive into her and Reese's backstory would have been so interesting, especially because I felt that Hetty (who we spent the majority of the book with) had the least interesting backstory of them all.

Overall an incredibly entertaining book to read, and I definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to pick up a softer introduction to the thriller genre (though beware, there is quite a bit of gore).
