On the Come Up
by Angie Thomas
thomas is really good in writing about racial issues in a realistic way.
and i think that in some ways this book was a bit better written than the hate you give.
and i do applaud someone that points out issues and realistically talks about them because i always hope that the more people read about those issues and with that know about those issues the more people can help fight them or figure out a solution to them.
all that being said: i didn’t connect to the characters in this and i didn’t like the music aspects of this book since i don’t enjoy the music genre this book talks about.
i also didn’t think that the overall book was all that well done. it felt a bit slow and dragged out.
or it’s just me and my personal reading taste that weren’t a match to this book.
all in all?
it’s a good book but not a great one in my option.
