libscote 's review for:
We Rule the Night
by Claire Eliza Bartlett
I loved this story, which is a fantastical version of Russia's female aviators from World War 2. Revna has prosthetic limbs from an accident, and her father is in jail because he used scrap metal to make them. This is considered stealing from the union. Joining the regiment will restore the rest of her family's good standing. Linnea's father is a general, and she ran away from home three years ago and posed as a man to fight in the war. After being discovered, this regiment will be her only way to fight. Both women have to overcome stereotypes and learn to work with each other. I didn't entirely understand the weave magic, but basically flight works through magical means. The ending leaves hope for a sequel. One annoying thing: the audiobook did not include the author's note, so I have requested the print book to see what it says.
