Insurgent by Veronica Roth
4.0

Alright, let's just get this right out there. I'm a bit disappointed. Divergent had me hooked so I was expecting a bit more from Insurgent. I can't really get into it all without spoiling it for those who haven't read it but here's the jest: the I hate you today/I love you today, back and forth ridiculousness that was going on between Four/Tobias and Tris was just annoying. I get that that can be a pretty common issue in 16 yr old relationships but keeping so many secrets from each other was just taking it to far. I kept asking myself, "are these two really an item or what?" I expected them to 'take over the world' together in this book. It's like they spent almost the entire book defying and avoiding each other. Ugh.

Also, the book was a bit all over the place. First they were here, then they were there, then they ran over to this faction, etc, etc. Seemed like there was a lot of action, but not much was actually happening. Also, there is no recap at the beginning of the book. I found myself having to go back and pull out Divergent to remind myself of things and characters. Oh, the characters! Too many to keep track of. I had to make out a chart in my notebook to remind myself of who was with who, what faction they came from, why Tris hates them or likes them, and what faction they are a part of now. It was exhausting. Lastly, why in the hell did Tris ally with Marcus?!!! I'm sorry but that just blows my mind and ticks me off.

The ending did surprise me slightly and re-interest me in reading the third book. I really enjoyed Divergent so I'm truly hoping that the third book will sort all these issues out and pull things together for me. I'd like to finish this series liking it rather than feeling frustrated and annoyed.
