Super Fake Love Song
by David Yoon
What’s the silliest thing you’ve ever done to impress someone you liked? Super Fake Love Song is a delightful YA rom-com! When Sunny Dae is first introduced to the amazing Cirrus Soh, he is star-struck. Mistaking his older brother Gray’s room as his, Cirrus thinks that Sunny is a musician. A panicked Sunny tells her that he is actually the lead singer of a rock band. As the lies start to build, Sunny and his friends form a fake band. With the help of Gray, Sunny and his friends start to create something real. But how long can Sunny keep up the facade?
I loved the strong themes of friendship, complex portrayal of siblings, and general silliness! While dealing with serious topics, the book is light-hearted and fun. The depiction of D&D and the unifying effect it had was great. With plenty of nerdiness and positive friendships, Super Fake Love Song is a sweet and soulful take on learning to be yourself AND how to create a rock band to impress someone you like! Thank you to David Yoon, Penguin Teen, and BookishFirst for a free review copy in exchange for an honest review.
