dermkat 's review for:
Get a Life, Chloe Brown
by Talia Hibbert
I was dealing with my own chronic illness mystery and between that, a med change, and packing to move again this month, my brain needed a break from the heavier literature I tend to prefer. I had enjoyed the romantic comedy I'd read this month so I went in search of another and found this one. It is about a girl with a chronic illness deciding to create a "must do" list and rebel against her usual boring life after a near death experience. She enlists the help of her new sexy neighbor to help her with her list. The description of this book piqued my curiosity and the first few lines hooked me:
"Once upon a time, Chloe Brown died. Nearly. It happened on a Tuesday, of course."
Word of warning: this book is more explicit than other fun romantic comedies. When I read more about the author I discovered that she has written more romance books and their covers are very obviously closer to bodice ripper style. I am still likely to read the next book in this series, which is about one of Chloe's sisters
Reread: I first read this book a couple of years ago when I was really early into my own chronic pain journey and remember thinking 'oh wow her experiences as someone with Fibromyalgia sound similar to mine' and then went to google more about the condition. That's as far as it went at that point since my medical team was exploring other potential causes, and then I loved the other two books in the series more as I continued reading. Since being diagnosed with Fibro myself this year, I wanted to reread it and I'm so glad I did! I now see even more similarities between myself and Chloe and love her relationship with Red even more as I deeply appreciate the things he does for her because he cares, not because he feels sorry or thinks she can't do it (while at the same time showing her it is okay to get help if you can't do it!). Yup, I definitely will be buying this one as rereading it again in the future..
Reread: No changes to my opinion from the last time I read it: I love this book! I tried to listen to the audio a while ago and couldn't get into it but started right off the top with the ebook and cruised through. Reading Chloe's experience with fibro/chronic pain/fatigue (written by an author with experience) was what made me think for sure that's what I was dealing with when docs were still puzzled and trying different tests with no answers. I did forget how spicy they are together though! Looking forward to rereading the other books in this series.
