dark
mysterious
tense
slow-paced
Plot or Character Driven:
A mix
Strong character development:
Complicated
Loveable characters:
No
Diverse cast of characters:
No
Flaws of characters a main focus:
Yes
Warning: don’t get attached/invested in Suzuki’s characters long-term. Overall, a good follow-up to ring. I especially liked the inclusion of puzzles and scientific images/discussion; made the book feel more interactive. The ending slightly disappointed me, but that’s likely more to my own biases & desired outcomes, rather than any plot weakness.
Moderate: Child death, Grief
Minor: Transphobia
