Manix by Grace McGinty
3.5

I will say this is probably her best series as far as quality of writing, development of plot, and characterization, one can clearly see that she has improved as a writer. That being said I wasn’t totally sold after the first book but it was generally enjoyable enough. This series follows a small community of Manix (which as far as I can tell is a supernatural group she makes up) which are sort of like lycanthropes in that they can change form but also they are born into the community and not made and are ABO but have basically warred and fought themselves into too small of a population and all of the female omegas are gone. There is like a bunch of weird complexity that she builds into how they all reproduce but basically it’s less easy without female omegas. The first series involves finding a female omega who doesn’t realize that she is part Manix and this of course shakes up their stodgy hidden community with kind of patriarchal leadership. I will say that this series of all the others really develops the broader world in which it is set and the political intrigue pretty well.
