Beach Read is a quick and fun romance about two author's rediscovery their writing persona after struggling with writer's block. This is a rivals to romance, with January and Gus meeting in college. They reconnect after January moves into her late father's beach house, and Gus is her next-door neighbor.

In the author's note, Emily Henry adds before writing Beach Read, she did not see herself as a romance author. One of the more complex themes of this book is the idea writers should explore other genres and aspects of genres that may not be their ideal writing style. As a reader, I enjoy when authors explore different aspects of their creative side. I think this can lead to great books that really surprise the reader.

Overall, I give this book 4 stars. It was a light and funny read.
