May Day by Josie Jaffrey
4.0

Some books arrive on your radar exactly when you need the. This was 100% the case with May Day. After putting countless books down because nothing could keep my attention, this kickass urban fantasy grabbed my focus and it was the exact kind of vampire fun I neededѓ?Э But better. It was more than a hot alpha male making it awkward for the sassy hot chick until she fell for him. In fact it took most of my expectations and turned them upside down.

Part police procedural, part mystery, part romance, May Day was a well rounded, entertaining read. I freaking loved it. I loved that it had so much depth to it. The characters were great, the romance was way more than I expected and I did not pick any of the twists and turns. Considering the amount of urban fantasy Iѓ??ve read that is a hell of an achievement.

Jack is my very favourite type of character, she is full of snark, a little bitter and broken and incredibly good at what she does. She makes bad choices and she is quite the booze hag. Jack has had a tough introduction to the vampire world and is trying to make the best of it. She has a wonderful friend, Cam, who you canѓ??t help but love. Cam is a wonderful character and I look forward to seeing what life has in store for him. He balances out Jack and he is the best friend we would all love to have.

The setting is modern day England, Oxford specifically, and the author does a wonderful job bringing the location to life. She slots the vampires (Silvers) into our world in the most realistic way. They have a hierarchy that is completely old school and totally fitting and the way Jack pushes against it works so well because of her age. She has such a give no shit attitude that she canѓ??t bring herself to toe the line, especially when she thinks itѓ??s wrong. She is a total right fighter and at times itѓ??s detrimental to her, but she does it anyway. It is at the core of who she is And I fucking love that.

The romance in May Day is wonderful, there is some angst, some lust and some hot times. Tabitha is the absolute cutest and Killian is a sexy bastard, fingers crossed she gets both in the long run. I was also heavily invested in Camѓ??s love life.

The story flowed, kept me 100% invested and I absolutely adored Jacks way of wrapping things up. I like that type of justice. If you are after an urban fantasy that brings a little extra to the table, this book just might be for you.
